The era of the divorced and others.....?

In my age group I'm what you might call a unicorn... In my lifetime I've never been married nor had kids. Now don't expect me to update you on my age, look at the bio and do some arithmetic.... I digress. Back to what I was saying regarding being a unicorn. What makes me even more of a rarity is the fact I've been engaged a couple of times and decided to break them off, stories for another time! I've never wanted to have kids out of wedlock, for selfish reasons really.... I just did not want to end up raising a child alone! Raising kids is HARD work, marriage is HARD work and no wants to do either alone, I just never found anyone who understood this and was willing to make the commitment and stick to it no matter what! I'm old fashioned like that...and I also like a guy whose a gentleman. Mmmh...the bygone era of true gentleman. Lord this blog reads like a dating profile, not at all intended! Anyway last week I was chatting to a friend who was telling me that h...

A cautionary tale for young ladies out there....

I have been doing a lot of travelling for work and my colleagues are young males. For some reason they seem to see me as one of the boys. I have no issue with this as they tend to relax around and act like they do when there are no women around. I must say that I'm glad that I'm not part of the generation of women that is being preyed upon by these young guys. Case in point, on the third day of our 5 day research project one of the guys complained of how sexually frustrated he was. This is someone who is a bit of a rolling stone and always brags about his conquests to the extent that I would wonder, why... While at a local 'tshisa nyama' which is barbecue for the non South Africans he arrives with this girl that he's just picked up fabricating a story of their being long lost loves who've been apart for the ...

Is social media guilty of murdering free speech?

I have been seeing a couple of stories lately regarding people that have lost their jobs because of things they have posted on social media... This has made me think whether this monster (social media) that we have created is not robbing us of some of the liberties we have fought for. Mind you I don't condone or agree with people who spew hate speech and tie it with a free speech ribbon and expect you to swallow regardless of how foul it is, but at the same time, we can't all have the same views and agree with each other all the time. Dialogue and disagreements are a crucial part of a free society, yet the clap back that people receive from expressing their opinion or simply posting their lives online is ridiculous.  The group hardest hit by this are celebrities because whatever they post is a potential headline for tabloids and hard news lately. We seem to choose to forget that they are human like all of us and we revel in seeing them get into hot water because of somet...
